Understanding the typical recruiting timeline is important to your successful search. Recruiting for girls field hockey starts early, with coaches making verbal commitments as early as freshman year (fortunately still a rarity). The timeline below includes the major dates of which you should be aware.
Laying a Foundation
|Register on target schools' Athletic and Admission website
Defining Priorities & Capabilities
Getting a Match
|For DI and DII, register with NCAA Clearinghouse
|Take SAT and/or ACT
|Coaches can email and call you after Sept 1
|Many DI programs done allocating athletic scholarships by end of junior year.
Sealing the Deal
|Coaches go to admissions for "Early Reads"
|Official visits start after 1st day of classes
|Ivy League schools send out "Likely Letters"
|National Letter of Intent Signing in Feb
|= Coaches evaluating you play
